TIME and Sustainability: How We're Making a Difference

Carbon Fiber Process

TIME didn’t necessarily start with the idea of making more efficient use of materials, but in fact many of our processes are less wasteful than industry-standard carbon production. It’s not a secret that working with carbon is not a green practice, but this doesn’t mean there’s no value in using more sustainable methods – reducing and reusing whenever possible and meeting or exceeding strict EU environmental impact guidelines.

Weaving Carbon Fiber

The BCS process uses dry fibers that don’t require refrigeration like prepreg does. We only buy what we need and can easily adjust fibre stock as required. The braided socks that wrap the tubes require minimal or no trimming during layup, so at the end of a shift there is very little scrap on the factory floor.

Our lost wax moulding process is highly efficient – internal wax molds are melted down after each use and collected for later projects. The smooth surfaces of frames and components when they are pulled out of the mould require less sanding, creating fewer airborne particulates.

The consistent wetting of fibers and removal of air bubbles during the RTM process ensures we rarely patch surface holes with toxic chemical fillers and the precision eliminates the occasional need to fix the roundness of bottom bracket shells or headtubes. The fact we offer raw carbon frames with only a UV-blocking gloss coat shows the pride we take in our consistently beautiful results.
